Pool Quote Compare

Compare pool quotes and proposals side by side.

Compare pool quotes from different contractors

Pool Quote Compare is a free tool for homeowners who have two to four pool contractor quotes, bids or proposals and need to see what is actually different between them. Upload the PDFs or paste the text and the tool pulls out the price, pool size, price per square foot, construction type, finishes, equipment, included services, exclusions, warranties and timeline, then lines them up in one table.

Pool quotes rarely match line for line. One builder includes electrical, permits and fencing; another leaves them out. One quotes a variable speed pump and heater; another quotes a single speed pump and no heater. The comparison highlights those gaps so the cheapest quote is not simply the one that includes the least.

Frequently asked questions about comparing pool quotes

How do I compare pool quotes from different contractors?

Put each quote into the same set of categories: total price, pool size and surface area, construction type, interior finish, decking and coping, equipment, included services, exclusions, warranties and timeline. Then compare price per square foot of surface area and list what each quote leaves out. Pool Quote Compare does this automatically from PDF or pasted proposals.

Why are my pool quotes so different in price?

Quotes usually differ because they include different things. Common causes are different pool sizes, gunite versus fiberglass construction, different decking area and materials, variable speed versus single speed pumps, heater or automation included or not, and items such as permits, electrical, fencing, dirt haul-off and landscape repair that one builder includes and another excludes.

What should a pool quote include?

A complete pool quote states the pool dimensions, construction type, interior finish, coping and decking material and area, every piece of equipment by brand and model, what is and is not included (permits, electrical, gas line, fence or barrier, excavation haul-off, landscape repair), allowances, payment schedule, warranties, estimated timeline, and the contractor's license and insurance.

What is price per square foot for a pool and why does it matter?

Price per square foot divides the total quote by the pool's surface area. It lets you compare quotes for different sized pools, but it only works if the quotes include the same scope. Always compare it alongside the exclusions list, since a lower price per square foot can simply mean more items were left out.

What exclusions should I look for in a pool proposal?

Look for items marked as excluded, owner responsibility, or not included. Common ones are permits and engineering, electrical work, gas lines, fencing or safety barriers, rock or hard-dig excavation, dirt removal, landscape and irrigation repair, startup chemicals and drainage. Each one can add cost after you sign.

Should I just pick the cheapest pool quote?

Not on price alone. Quality is worth the cost. A proposal shows what a builder will build, not how the job will go, so weigh reviews and past projects heavily. Read recent reviews, including the low ratings and how the builder replied, ask each builder for 3 to 5 references from recent pools and at least one older pool, and visit a finished pool if you can. A low bid with weak reviews can cost more once delays, change orders and repairs show up. Pool Quote Compare also names the best pick for equipment, materials, options and warranty, not only the lowest price.

Is Pool Quote Compare free and is my proposal private?

Yes, it is free. Proposals are read and compared in your browser, with no account and no upload to a server. If you choose to turn on the optional AI assist by entering your own Anthropic API key, the trimmed text of that proposal is sent to Anthropic for that step only.

What file types can I use?

PDF and plain text. You can also paste the proposal text directly. Compare two to four proposals at a time.
